Hearing that over 72% of it is staked and visiting the site, using the staking calculator there and understanding I only plan to hold it anyways, I decided it was best for me too.

Neither the YouTube video or the Daedalus website told me anything about a Daedalus mobile app. I just assumed that there must be one since so many exchanges and crypto-related products have them already. I also assumed that since there are crypto wallet apps as well, that any Daedalus app would serve as a wallet for staking, especially since there are wallets that let you stake ADA already. This scam definitely banks on those assumptions.

I went to Google store and there it was, first result. It had almost 5 stars at the time and I honestly did not check the written reviews at all. I will not make that mistake again...

So I downloaded it, took 15 seconds and there it was on my phone:

Looks legit!

I clicked on it immediately and was greeted to the Terms of Service, which was short, and I did not read it as I never read them. I place a lot of unnecessary trust in these things admittedly.

Reading over it later though, it was filled with the proper buzzwords, things like "testnet" and the like.

Here's the Terms of Service in case you all find something interesting:

1/3

2/3

3/3

I checked off "I agree with the terms of service" and wouldn't you know it, this scam gets right to business!

What's your Security Phrase?

It asks for your security phrase right off the bat! The app looks legit too, even has a moving logo when you first open it that looks incredibly professional. I wish I had a way to show you it here just so you all would know they spare no expense.

I paused here. My first response was that I did not download this to restore a wallet, I downloaded it to start a wallet that I can stake my ADA with. I then tried to close this window and found that it did not close, in any way. I tried to close it using every method I've ever learned and then some, all of 3 minutes I would say. Confused, I reloaded the app and same thing. It was clear to me at this point that I could only restore a wallet here to get started, the lack of options demanded it by default.

Fortunately, I did not fall for this scam. I can definitely see where many would though.

I get scam calls all the time from the other side of the world. One is to lower my credit card interest rate to zero! Nice, huh?! I'll waste a bit of their time if I have nothing better to do, it's for fun. They all have the same spiel. They take the limited information they get from their leads, in this case my name and the last four digits of my credit card (which is shared information everywhere) and they hope that you will think they have the whole number, asking you to verify the rest. Suddenly they have your credit card information.

Well, seeing this screen I couldn't escape the fact that this felt just like that. They made themselves seem legit in hopes I would give up the information they did not have.

Even though I felt this might be a scam, I still thought that maybe it wasn't and I would figure it out later. I am very glad I waited a couple of days and I am extremely glad I am a part of this community. I managed to see that it was very much a scam because of the work you all put in here today and I want to thank you by showing you what a scam is capable of looking like: professional.

I am positive that plenty of you have much bigger bags than I do. I would say the greater percentage of you hold bigger bags than I do actually. However, what's mine is mine. When I think about what I would have felt if I had fallen for this scam, it terrifies me honestly. I can only imagine what extremes of emotion this would prompt from people giving up their wallet security phrase and falling for the scam with holdings of, for example: $50,000, easy! In crypto, that's nothing for some people. Gone in an instant and possibly well before you realize. Just gone! It terrifies me to think scams like this exist, that they work and that people can be that horrible.

Be careful out there guys and gals. I hate to admit it, but this one almost fooled me and it still kind of terrifies me to know I came so close.

GOOGLE Play Store has NO validation process it seems.

Thanks again guys and gals for all you do. You probably saved me today...

submitted by /u/Phaleel
[link] [comments]

Kind Regards R
