How come I can't just buy a stock, receive the dividend and sell it again only to do

I'm trying to understand dividends and I read that you need to hold the stock at the record date and then usually about 1 month later the dividend is paid out equally across investors.

Why can't I just buy a stock, hold it a month, receive the dividend and then do the same trick to receive monthly or weekly dividends? Seems to me that would literally print money, but obviously it's not that easy so someone tell me where I misunderstood something.

submitted by /u/helpamonkpls
[link] [comments]
