Does anyone ever feel guilty about getting their friends and family into crypto?

Managed to get a few of my friends and family members into the wild world of crypto a few months after I joined at the start of Q4 2021. Some were quite keen, some very cautious, but in the end they have taken my (slightly financial) advice and started looking up at the moon.

While I really try not to look at the charts during the bear, I can't help but feel a bit responsible for their portfolios being down. Yes I couldn't have seen all the shit this year (fuck you Putin) but me getting excitable at a time of high prices and hooking them in does keep me up at night occasionally.

Now for the most part we aren't talking a lot of money - most are buying small bits of BTC/ETH each month on a DCA as a form of saving. I'm OK with this as I know like you all this is likely a solid bet for the future.

But some have thrown a fair bit more than that. A lot at BTC/ETH but a couple got fully-hooked like me and bought into several alts. Those portfolios have then sat at -50% or less for most of the year and these people have made a few comments my way about losing money, 'I could have done this instead' etc. I don't think they're directed at me or saying it's my fault, but you sort of get a little passive aggression vibe too. This doesn't help with the guilt.

Before I get the inevitable 'their money, their choice' responses I do get that. They didn't have to listen, didn't have to commit fiat, didn't have to make the comments after. I just know I can get really passionate about stuff and at the time reckon I painted quite a wonderful picture. Yet instead this year it's like that picture was painted with turds on a bin liner.

If anyone has felt similar or can offer words of wisdom to pull me out of the mental hole I regularly find myself on this, it would be appreciated.

submitted by /u/KnackeredParrot
[link] [comments]
