What are your thoughts on private market investing?

Curious to see if you all see private markets (private equity, venture capital, real estate, etc) as better or worse than traditional stock market investing, and if you are not accredited, how you are currently investing in those areas.

I’ve read (on investopedia, so taken with a grain of salt) that PE and VC have returned an average of 10.49% and 15.15% year over year for the past 10 years, while the S&P returns about 6% over the same time period. I’m not sure how accurate that actually is, but it feels like a lot of missed opportunities for those of us who are not accredited.

I’ve seen platforms like Republic, Fundrise, Yieldstreet, and Masterworks, but I’m not totally sold on their risk/reward profiles. Would love any input from the community. Thanks!

submitted by /u/brohaha
[link] [comments]
