A Decentralised Exchange without hot wallets. What's the catch?

Hi, I have an old school friend that has been involved with a project for about 3 years now. It's a decentralised ethereum exchange called Deversifi that allows you to send and trade directly from your private wallet without having the exhange holding anything in hot wallets.

From comments over time made on social media, this has been in the works for years so I am confident it's not just a scam. It looks interesting, improves user security and makes it easy to trade. So what's the catch? I've learned to become skeptical of anything that looks like its a big improvement. Also, I'm in no way involved in the project just looking for some insight from more experienced people.

Kind Regards R
