Popular blockchains that failed due to purely technical issues?

I was recently doing a thought experiment about what would happen if a blockchain project gained (relatively) wide adoption but folded due to being unable to overcome technical hurdles. Other than the massive &quot;The DAO&quot; catastrophe, I can't really think of any other examples of this. I would love if someone could point me to some that I haven't thought of.
