Restricted on Coinbase? Here’s how I fixed mine

So, I tried to withdraw some funds to my private wallet (in app) and it told me my account was restricted, I couldn’t trade or basically do anything with my crypto - annoyed ? I’m not the only one too, there seems to be a-lot of reports of people currently in this situation.

As a bit of background had account for quite a while (12+ months), I was ‘level 2’ verified and have made quite a few purchases and withdraws. I’ve also traded on Coinbase Pro a little. I’ve not bought/withdrawn from there for a few months I had about 10% of my bag on there (the rest is in private wallet/a little on other exchanges) - but I’d consider my account in good standing (based in Europe).

The cause seems to be a couple of things: - When you log in via browser, there are some new Terms and conditions/privacy stuff to accept. - My name was a common abbreviation in my Coinbase settings area compared to my full name as printed on ID document (although this got accepted a long time ago and has been verified and fine across many transactions) - I’m not certain on this, but previously I’d used my driving license, I looked at support docs and it states that driving license is only valid ID inside the US (again, this had been used and was fine previously) - your mileage may vary depending on your country.

Resolution: - log into account via browser, accept new terms and conditions etc - Go into name verification process at https://www.coinbase.com/verify-identity - ensuring legal name is exactly the same as shown in your ID document (you can’t change this in normal Coinbase settings). - Go to https://www.coinbase.com/verify-document and re-verify ID document again. - I also enabled Google Authenticator 2FA at the same time, this account only had sms verification (it was setup a long time ago - everything else is Authenticator 2FA!), not sure if that made a difference, but my account unlocked almost straight away and I withdrew pretty much everything... lessons learned, and it wasn’t much anyway.

It’s being reported a-lot, I hope this helps; it seems to be effecting people who’s legal names match their ID too, so it’s not just that... another Coinbase drama ?

submitted by /u/HokkaidoNights
[link] [comments]Kind Regards R
