Opinion: Comedy/Meme posts will drive newcomers away from here

First of all, I'm Brazilian so pardon me if something I write is a little confusing or just grammatically wrong, I got my English from Tibia after all.

We are in "those times" where people will start to ask were to look for information about crypto and this sub helped me a lot back when I entered crypto in 2015-2016 since most information about crypto public available in Portuguese were just about Bitcoin and all the Ponzis my countrymen love to build to get money from boomers and desperate poor people.

"So, what's the problem with the Comedy/Memes in this sub?", you must be asking yourself. Well, I can't speak for other countries but a lot of them are just not funny unless you have a very good understanding of English language or the culture around it, I just saw a Chappelle Show meme on the first page, for Christ's sake. That's my first argument against this type of post.

Culture differences aside, it's clear Memes are being used to farm Moons, specially when you look how much Moons these people are making, there's a dude I see posting like 10 times a day that has like 50k, needless to say dude's throwing everything in the wall to see what sticks.

So you must be thinking with yourself: "but hey, 50k moons isn't that much, it must take him at least 5 to 10 months to make it, right?". So, lets do some math so first world people can understand a little more why this will become a huge problem pretty soon:

I make 70 bux per month here in Brazil, I assume in most third world countries in the world make that or probably less, specially students

xMoons usually sells for around 0.04-0.05 USD, let's round it to 0.045

Lets say someone is making 50k moons every 10 months by shitposting here

This person is making 2250 USD every 10 months, 225 USD every month, that's almost 4 times what I make in my day job! For comparison 300 USD is what mother makes cleaning houses from 7 AM to 6 PM, every fucking day.

Once people see there's a real opportunity to make a lot of money shitposting here with MSPaint memes (specially for third world duellers like myself), things will spiral out of control pretty fast. That's my second argument against this type of post.

My last argument against this type of post is simple: the more shitposts you get in the first page here, the more informative posts will get buried. Since moon farming started here my reddit fist page got so annoying with Paint memes I had to set the option for posts from here to not show up on my feed, simply because 70% of the posts I was getting from here where Memes.

For newcomers that will start joining here and that don't have a very good domain of the English language/culture and is just looking for some information, most of the posts here are just unintelligible crap, if you pardon my English. And that already happened with me a week ago: a college friend of mine asked for a source of information about crypto, I linked him to this sub, he browsed here a couple days and just left because of the unintelligible Memes/Comedy. Ofc this is anecdotal, but it is what it is.

The main question for the users and moderatos is: what's the main purpose of this sub? Do we wanna be a good place to get information about crypto, or do we wanna be a hub for Anglo-centered comedy hub for crypto and a day job for Moon farmers that pays very well?

I know everyone will have a different opinion about this, but mine is simple: you either kill Meme/Comedy posts and make a separate sub just for them or you kill Moon rewards to discourage farming. My main take from this is that the entire Moon project was a mistake.

Kind Regards R
