Reddit’s r/CryptoCurrency MOON token is now being used as a currency

As some of you already know, due to a recent governance poll, Moons can now be used to purchase ad space on the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit. This is a great use-case, but it’s actually much more significant than many people realize.

To put things into perspective, r/CryptoCurrency is the world’s largest online crypto community. Ad space in a community of this size is valuable, to say the least. The current price for renting this ad space is the amount of Moons equivalent to $1,200 per day I believe, which is pocket change for large companies compared to their normal ad spending costs. The price could be easily increased and still be relatively cheap. Once the ad program has matured and there’s more demand for the ad space I expect the prices to increase.

Ad space can only be purchased using Moons, and all Moons used to purchase ad space will be burned. Large companies aren’t going to be shitposting all day, except maybe Kraken (just kidding), which means the Moons will be purchased on exchanges, or possibly over-the-counter.

r/CryptoCurrency’s ad program is still in its infancy, but once it has matured, I’d imagine the ad space will be booked year-round and Moons will be consistently burned every single day. This is in addition to marketing AMAs, which will also be purchased with Moons that will be burned, as well as other projects such as MoonPlace.io which burned 1 million Moons almost instantly. (Not to mention the 4.77 million moons which were burnt when the Arbitrum Nova bridge shut down.)

Moons just went from being “the epitome of shitcoins” (which is what someone called them in an older post I was just looking at) to being the official advertising currency of the world’s largest online crypto community. I don’t know what this will lead to, although it’s fun to imagine, but what I do know is Moons now have one of the best use cases of any crypto I’ve seen.

submitted by /u/gdj11
[link] [comments]
