[SERIOUS] MOONS baseline value is driven by the sub community

Moonplace has provided another avenue for using moons.</p> <p>So should we place a greater focus on moons in this sub?</p> <p>I don't think so.</p> <p>The projects built to utilise moons are only as successful as the CryptoCurrency subreddit which underlies it.</p> <p>A sub of 6.1 million members. 10,500 of those members made a contribution to earn at least 1 moon in the last distribution. That's a lot of highly targeted potential customers for any new project.</p> <p>So what happens if people come just for the moons?</p> <p>Community engagement drops. Those looking for genuine conversations find other places to go.</p> <p>Your targeted customers change.</p> <p>New projects won't garner the same kind of engagement. New projects lack sales and begin to fail. Advertisers stop buying banners.</p> <p>The faith in moons drops. The price of moons drops.</p> <p>I have participated in online communities since the 90s, and seen plenty of forums slip from prosperous times to wastelands in mere months.</p> <p>Crypto currency conversation must remain the clear primary focus of the sub. Moons must remain somewhere in the distance, as a side-benefit, the thing you find out about after participating for a while. Not front-and-center and the first thing that hits you when you walk in the door.</p> <p>The quality of the subreddit, and therefore the price of moons, relies on it.</p> <p>So when we are thinking about sub proposals, take a moment and think about how it may impact the focus and quality of the sub.</p> <p>Thoughts?</p> <p>---</p> <p>Side notes:</p> <p>My intention isn't to come off as "holier than thou".
