Discussing the "Currency" in "CryptoCurrency"

I'd like to have a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages that cryptocurrencies offer relative to fiat money. This subreddit is literally named "CryptoCurrency", and I personally find it odd how easily some users of this forum write off cryptocurrency as being not viable, and saying the only usecase for crypto is for example in supply chains, data management etc.

What I'd like to discuss is:

Whether there are distinct advantages crypto has over regular fiat money (and vice versa).

Whether you think there is a future for cryptocurrencies (or not) and why.

I'll add my own thoughts below, and I'd love to hear yours.

Kind Regards R
