Are there any 'Green' Cryptos?

One of the big negatives of Crypto (at least portrayed in the media) is the energy use for mining (specifically BTC) and it got me thinking if there was any Cryptos that somehow (I have no idea how) classed themselves as 'green' or eco friendly, either by offsetting carbon footprints or by being used within the renewable energy sector but... I can't seem to find any and it might not even be a thing.

So I reach out to /r/CryptoCurrency , do we have any green/eco friendly crypto's out there?

Edit: Lots of great responses so far but I should probably clarify that I'm really looking for a Crypto that actively works to help the environment. Keep the suggestions coming, lots of reading to do!

submitted by /u/ithilkir
[link] [comments]Kind Regards R
