r/cryptocurrency is a social experiment and we may be it's test subjects.

After watching Twitter CEO talk about the future of social media being decentralized.

https://youtu.be/u7ijNBTDUcM

He focuses on free speech and content moderation being done by a consensus driven mechanism. That sounded a lot like Reddit. Where views that are against the grain can be downvoted while views that enforce the status quo gets upvoted.

Now things get interesting when blockchain gets introduced and there's financial incentive to go with the status quo.

This was designed to promote quality content but I believe this may lead to unnatural conformity. Where critical thinking of new ideas may or may not be given a chance to be accepted. We're going to be relying on the average intellect of the entire userbase to decide if one thing is right or wrong.

The scary part is, misinformation could be deemed as a norm if most people agree on it. Like the Earth is flat.

In the bubble of Flat-Earther groups, that is considered the truth. If you go against the grain in that bubble, you'll be an outcast.

This can be extrapolated to the entire social media.

There was also further indications saying that in the new decentralized system, people would get credit scores to base their weight of their statement. That sounds a lot like our governance polls. Where people with higher moon count has greater weight to their votes.

I just hope we don't end up like that episode from Black mirror where people are recruited based on their social media credit scores.

("Nosedive" Black Mirror: Season 3, Episode 1)

Right now, Reddit is not decentralized. But I believe they may be planning to evolve and we may be it's clinical trials.

I wanna hear your thoughts as well.

submitted by /u/ultron290196
[link] [comments]Kind Regards R
