Elon Musk needs to get a grip

Full disclosure: I'm long Tesla.

I had a busy morning, just came home for a break in between, and checked my phone. Apparently Elon Musk promised to sell 10% of his stake in Tesla based on the results of a Twitter poll to make a political point about taking unrealized gains. Sure enough, Tesla is down significantly (and yes, it may be smart to "buy the dip" here but these actions have potential legal consequences).

Honestly, I agree that taxing unrealized gains is insane. But that's not the point of this post. The point is at what point are Musk's antics an actual liability for the company, as compared to him being tied into the companies brand?

In my honest opinion, I don't think he's responsible enough to be a CEO and he seems to have no concept of responsible governance. I'm no lawyer, but my first thought was that he is exposing his company to legal liability for a political point, and honestly that's no way to govern a corporation. And the kicker is that this isn't the first time.

Edit: Just to add on, I feel like this has real consequences for investors. Being a responsible leader is important, and it's something I consider when investing in a company. When I think about the risks of having a position in Tesla, Musk's behavior is a significant one.

submitted by /u/pavioc16
[link] [comments]Kind Regards R
