Setting up a new 2 factor authorization device

I set up a google 2 step authorization app on my phone a few years ago for accessing exchanges. That phone is old and stashed away and I only use it every now and then when I want to make some changes to my accounts. I am afraid if something technical happens to that phone I may not be able to access my accounts.

Are there better 2 step authorization apps with some kind of paper back up? I do not have the QR code from my initial set up.

Are U2F physical keys better than apps? Are there any U2Fs with paper back up keys?

I have the keys to a wallet where I store most of my goods but, I have some on exchanges as well. I know keeping anything on an exchange comes with its own set of risks.

Kind Regards R
