I love Monero as currency. I hate it as investment.

Or: The two sides of the medal.

Hey guys, I've seen a few comments and posts about Monero recently and thought I'd start a discussion about it because I have quite a two-sided opinion on it...

First:

I love Monero as a currency. It's a privacy coin that actually has a use case, filling a niche that other cryptocurrencies simply can't by being (proven(!) private) and having a decent liquidity. Monero is very close to the original vision of Bitcoin, where privacy was an essential component of the cryptocurrency. I find today privacy is more critical than ever, and Monero provides an excellent solution for those who want to keep their transactions private... you can argue about reasons people want to do that, but I appreciate that there is at least an option of doing so. Monero always stuck to its guns and is a true OG in terms of vision and integrity.

Now the not so nice part:

Making money with Monero... well, as much as I love Monero as a currency, I hate it as an investment. I strongly believe that there is a realistic chance of privacy coins to be outlawed in most major countries in the (near?) future. While you theoretically can't stop it, this would effectively destroy the project, as the price and liquidity of the coins would tank. Therefore, investing in Monero or any other privacy coin is a no-no for me and for many others. As a result, this also means that the coin doesn't appreciate in value too much compared to other projects and is therefore quite uninteresting for many folks in crypto. Which is a shame, really.

Tl;dr: Good because of OG coin sticking to its guns. Bad because no good investment. Result: many people don't like coins without gains and therefore don't give it any love.

What's your opinion on the matter?

submitted by /u/Schwammosaurus_Rex
[link] [comments]
