How to use paper clips for lock picking
#1
Lock picking is the art of opening locks without using the key. While it may seem like a skill reserved for burglars and spies, lock picking can also be a useful skill for those who find themselves locked out of their homes or cars. In this article, we will discuss how to use paper clips for lock picking, as well as provide information on the basic principles of lock picking.

Before we begin, it's important to note that lock picking should only be used for legal purposes. Attempting to pick a lock that you do not own or do not have permission to open may be illegal in some areas.

The basic principles of lock picking involve manipulating the pins inside a lock to create a gap between the lock's cylinder and its housing. Once this gap is created, the lock can be turned and opened. To achieve this, lock pickers use a variety of tools, including tension wrenches, rakes, and picks.

In the case of using paper clips, the tension wrench and the pick are the two essential tools. To create a tension wrench, you will need a paper clip that has been straightened out with a small bend at one end. This bent end will act as the handle for the tension wrench. The pick can be made by straightening out another paper clip and bending it into the shape of a hook. The hook should be small enough to fit inside the keyhole of the lock.

Once you have your tension wrench and pick, it is time to begin the lock picking process. Insert the tension wrench into the bottom of the keyhole and apply slight pressure in the direction you would turn the key. This pressure should be enough to create tension in the lock's cylinder. While maintaining this pressure, insert the pick into the top of the keyhole and begin to manipulate the pins inside the lock.

Using the pick, push each pin up until you feel it click into place. As you do this, you should feel the tension in the lock increase. Once all of the pins have been set, turn the tension wrench in the direction you would turn the key to unlock the lock. With a little practice, this process can be completed in just a few minutes.

While using paper clips for lock picking can be a useful skill in emergency situations, it is important to note that this method is not foolproof. Certain types of locks, such as those with security pins, may be much more difficult to pick using paper clips. Additionally, attempting to pick a lock that you do not own or do not have permission to open may be illegal in some areas.

For those who are serious about learning the art of lock picking, it is recommended to invest in quality lock picks. Lock picks can be found online or at specialty locksmith shops. These picks are specifically designed for lock picking and are often more effective than paper clips.

When purchasing lock picks, it is important to consider the quality of the picks as well as the price. Cheap, poorly made picks may not be effective or may even break during use. Look for picks that are made from high-quality materials, such as stainless steel, and that are designed with a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different types of locks.

In conclusion, using paper clips for lock picking can be a useful skill to have in emergency situations. However, for those who are serious about lock picking, investing in quality lock picks is recommended. When purchasing lock picks, consider the quality of the picks as well as the price. With the right tools and a little practice, anyone can learn the art of lock picking.
