What is Maker?

Just a general ELi5 on maker. I understand it’s a stable coin and a governance protocol, but I want to also understand the pricing. If it’s an erc20 how is it worth more than Ether? Is that good for Ether to have a coin more valuable that itself. Does that bring the value of Ether down more or up? Just would like to know your opinion also. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards R
